It’s easy to take a tour of Washington, D.C. Historical tour? Sure! Political tour? Absolutely. Artistic or museum tour? Right this way! But what are the destinations that only insiders and locals know about? This is your guide to the less well known, but very exciting destinations in DC. Amazing Technicolor Architecture. DC boasts both a church and a Q Street rowhouse painted in ways that aren’t quite… traditional. In a town known for classical, even staid, design, visit these two sites to see the other side of DC. So Many Steps. For a reasonably flat city (the highest elevation in the city is only 410 ft above sea level), Washington has more than its share of historic and lovely staircases tucked away. The Spanish Steps connect S Street and Decatur Place, and on Prospect Street, the steps from the Exorcist film provide the perfect way to test your stamina alongside Georgetown athletes. Take a Ride. It’s not surprising that every type of transportation shows up in DC, but you may be pleasantly astonished at how many still remain in service. From the horse rentals in Rock Creek Park, to the C&O Canal, you can visit and explore. For a more mental ride, visit the naval observatory to see the official source of time for the entire US. Fancy a Bite? With its international population, Washington has quite a diverse food community. Skip the traditional and head to the top rated restaurant in 2016: Green Pig Bistro, famous for their hands-on approach to eating. After dinner is another issue entirely, as Momofuku Milk Bar and Georgetown Cupcake duke it out for top honors in DC desserts. Secret Speakeasy and Other Potent Potables. The Gibson is hidden behind an unremarkable door at 14th and U Streets and has all the old-timey elements to bring you back to Prohibition Era Washington. Other popular bars under the radar include Barmini and Nomad. Listen to the locals though; new pop-up bars are always appearing. Whether you are visiting DC for a short business trip or looking for a more long-term move, Churchill Living can meet your residential needs with a variety of long and short term furnished apartment rentals.
